Does Versioning creat saved or edited web address's ?

I am a small time web site maker, basicallty my Family's Genealogy Site. I use a software program entitled WS_FTP95 and use Notepad for my pages.

I think mainly since I got a new computer with Vista in it, quite often when I save a new or edited web page document, it comes out saved with either a [1] after my save address and not followed by html, or comes up with a completely different page address.
This is really giving me problems. I have been told by two different sources that my problem may relate to Versioning?
I have looked at your site and read about versioning, but don't really find anything related to my problem. Could you help me.

I sure would love to find out if I can correct this.
Thank you in advance.

WS_FTP and Notepad are just programs

WS_FTP95 is an FTP program that allows you to upload files to the internet and in this case, your website.

Notepad is just a basic file editor. (that is great you are writing HTML by hand)

the versioniing thing that you are talking about is related to saving files.

when you save a file, as you doing save, or save as? if you do save as, you may be creating copies. and that is what index[2].html is, a copy of in this case another index.html file

when you upload it, if you don't over write it, it may create a copy there.

so I don't know where you are making the copies (it could be accidental or inadvertent too)

but you can rename them.

you can press f2 or right click then rename, to fix the naming convention.

let me know if you have any other questions
