I did a little research and found that Ella Josephine Baker, the famous civil rights activist, was born December 13, 1903 in Norfolk, Virginia. Her parents were Blake Baker and Georgianna Ross Baker and she had an older brother named Blake Curtis Baker who was born December 23, 1901 and a younger sister named Margaret who was born about 1909. She had an older brother named Prince Baker who ded quite young and the name Prince was used on her mother's side of the family. Her mother had a cousin named Prince who was older than she (Ella's mother) was.

I am not sure if Ella Baker's mother was named Georgianna Ross or if Ross was just a middle name. She was born 1870 and her family was from the area around Littleton, Halifax County, North Carolina as Ella and her family moved there about 1910.

Ella's father was Blake Baker and he was born 1864 and his daughter Margaret was named after his mother. I found a Blake Baker living in Warrenton, Warren County, North Carolina on the 1880 census aged 16 years (born 1864) with his parents' names Tamar and Margaret Baker. Tamar was born in 1836 in North Carolina and Margaret Baker was born in 1845 also in North Carolina. Both of them stated that their parents had been born in North Carolina. Blake was listed as the oldest child and he had three brothers, Howard 14, Washington 11 and Hilliard 2 and four sisters, Catherine 8, Rebecca 6, Lucinda 4 and Mary 3. Tamar Baker is listed as a farmer and the race is given as mulatto.

I could not locate any information about Georgianna Ross' family in Littleton, North Carolina.
