Kinda rude for him to say that to be true!
Anyhow I think for some people having roots is important, and can be grouding. I never use to think knowing my roots was important, but now (as my father lay in bed with leukemia) I wonder if they are important - my father has made me very proud - so proud infact that even though I am married I still have my maiden name.
I live in Canada, but at one time went on holiday to the UK, you will notice they have so many ancient buildings and the people seem more grounded than the people in Canada or the USA, of interest, UK police only recently started to carry guns - they didnt even need them before.. but in North American police have pretty much always needed guns - I think perhaps this was related to the roots of the British people - it is simply amazing to step on a castle stone worn from millions of steps taken over several hundreds of years....
