Genealogy is the study of a person's ancestors. Genealogy is a popular hobby; with the advent of the Internet, finding historical records has become quite easy. Any person can trace their lineage and learn more about their ancestry, providing a sense of belonging to their country of origin, as well as a historical guide to medical issues that may arise in their family.

Tracing your lineage is much easier with modern day technology. Sites such as the Church of the Latter Day Saints, the Census Bureau, and church records are more easily accessed via the Internet. Records can also be ordered via mail, or accessed by visiting historical sites.

Genealogy is more than just a search on paper. It can be an emotional attachment you find for yourself in searching the people in your past that you never knew. For instance I was born in Louisiana and now live in Georgia. I found out that my ggggrandfather was in Georgia in 1817. You find how what made up your history and how your family came to be where they are now.

Genealogy is the study of one's family history. It is finding records to prove your link to people in your bloodline, going back generation by generation as far as one can. You begin with proving who you are, then tracing your father's family and your mother's family, then both their sets of parents and so on. Along this journey you may meet siblings and aunts and uncles you never knew, and uncover a fascinating history of events that helped shape people's lives.

Genealogy is a awesome tool in finding out who you are. Where your roots came from. I wrote a book on my family and found out so many interesting things. One can use resources such as elder relatives, old friends, the library and so much more. One thing I would recommend is that when you speak to the older family members have them write a brief one page letter on how they grew up or who their parents really were. You would be surprised how much they remember while doing this then they could just talking to them. And they have so much fun talking about the past. It's a lot of fun and yes it can be work too, but the end result is so rewarding. Once you sit down with Grandma and start talking and asking her questions, hours and hours will go by before you even know it. Have fun.
